About QCW Cycling

Our Mission:

QCW Cycling is a not-for-profit organization established with the intent of promoting competitive cycling in the greater Philadelphia region. Through its activities QCW Cycling seeks to improve physical fitness and competitive ability in its members as well as promote amateur bicycle racing on the regional level.

The following are examples of efforts initiated by QCW Cycling and its members:

  • Instruction of amateur cyclists in bicycle riding, fitness training, bicycle maintenance and safety

  • Producing high-quality road, track and cyclocross racing events in the Philadelphia Metro region

  • Promotion of cycling in the community as a means of attaining physical and mental health and fitness

  • Seeking out, mentoring, and training young cyclists of high potential but limited means

  • Volunteering to assist with cycling competitions organized by other local clubs

  • Using the organization’s revenues to help support other charities in the community, cycling or non-cycling related

  • Exposing club members to professional level competition through volunteering at National level events such as the recent Commerce Bank Triple Crown Cycling Classic in Philadelphia

The organization was formed in 1979 as a small club of cyclists who joined together for purposes of training to develop their competitive cycling abilities and to enter cycling races as a team. The organization grew over the years and its members have competed at a high level at many races locally, regionally, and nationally. In addition, the organization has committed its resources to putting on at least two full days of bicycle racing in the Philadelphia area per year. It has also endeavored to improve the quality of racing in the region by hosting skill and technique clinics on such topics as bicycle handling, road etiquette and safety, and training techniques. Currently, the organization is working on establishing the reputation of its races and racers at the local and regional level.
